SITE SOIL AND GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION

Project description and scope

A manufacturing plant retained Envirofix to complete remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater at a former plastic manufacturing plant in Brampton, ON, Canada.  The soil and groundwater had been impacted with volatile organic compounds (VOCs).  A plume of light non-aqueous phase liquid was floating on the surface of the groundwater beneath the floor slab of the plant building. A separate plume of VOCs impacted groundwater and was migrating on to the property from the north adjacent industrial property to the site.  After a few unsuccessful attempt by other remediation experts, EnviroFix was contracted to successfully achieve Worrall's goals.

Project deliverables

To ensure the success of the project, EnviroFix implemented the following:

  • Evaluation the environmental investigations and remedial activities conducted at the site in the past by others, in cooperation with the project consultant
  • Development of a remedial action plan to expedite the remedial activity and bring the site into compliance with the current Ontario environmental standards and regulations
  • Application of chemical oxidation to the groundwater and upgrading of the existing groundwater remediation system at the site to expedite the remediation activity
  • Removal of all industrial wastes accumulated at the site over the years

The remediation activity was successfully completed within two years; the property gained its maximum market value and subsequently sold for full value.
